Weagle and TJ

I can hear you now . . . "Weagle? What the heck's a Weagle?" Well, perhaps this little poem will help you understand. . .

Rah! Rah! Rah!
Shish boom ba!
Weagle! Weagle!
Waaaaaaaaaaaar Eagle!
Kick 'em in the butt Big Blue!

Did you catch that? We live in Opelika, Alabama, the sister city of Auburn, Alabama, home of Auburn University and the Auburn Tigers. And the rally cry for the Tigers is, of course, "War Eagle!" Since moving to Alabama, my son has become a HUGE fan of all things Orange and Blue, and he begged for me to name a puppy after his team. When we decided to keep this boy, it seemed the time was right! You still don't get it? Well, TJ was thrilled, and that alone is a great reason for the name!

Weagle is the pick dog from our Gemma and Timber litter. His litter name was "Houdini" because we could not keep a collar on this boy, or keep him contained in any sort of pen or fence. He has always been a thinker, and he likes to challange the boundaries. Like his sister Lacey, he seems to have inherited the best of both of his parents. In addition to the physical traits they passed down, this boy is a retriever!

Weagle's first experience in the water came at 5 months old. When his lead was unsnapped, he proceeded to race into the water, and when the bottom fell out from beneath his feet he started to swim. He quickly began trying to pick up everything he saw in the water, and was thrilled when I threw a bumper in for him. With no training at all, he put on a retrieving display that would be the envy of some adult dogs, and retrieved to hand at that! We plan to ship him off to Rob Babcock at The Captain's Kennels in Minnesota for field training in the near future, and we expect great things from this boy in the conformation and obedience rings and the field!

First retrieve at 5 months old.
