Tootsie the Terrier-ist
Tootsie is a very special dog. This picture really captures her essence - exploring, ears alert, tail up, and hackles raised - that's our Toots! We jokingly call her a "Philippine Terrier" but what she is, is the epitome of the Filipino street dog. She became mine as a 5 week old puppy in 1992 when I lived in the city of Olongapo, in the Philippines. Tootsie is suspicious of people she doesn't know, and the list of "her" people is very small. But, when she loves you, she knows how to show it. Her hugs are very special, as are her greetings. She is a VERY intelligent dog, with her brains matched only by her stubbornness. Unfortunately, when I got her I didn't think small dogs needed much training, and now she very much has her own mind! At 18 pounds, Toots is much smaller than the other canine occupants of the house, but make no mistake, she rules the roost! The other dogs respect and sometimes even fear her. She truly is a big dog in a small dog body!
