Onyx is our pick bitch from our breeding of Gemma to CH Hightide Bonaventure Cap'n Jack. We had hoped to keep a chocolate girl from this breeding, but she was just too nice to pass up! We got the chocolate in this litter from her brother Dubya, and have another black girl as well, her sister Tybee that we co-own with a friend.
Onyx is obsessed with retrieving. She spends most of her time with a tennis ball in her mouth, looking at you and clearly saying, "Ball? Ball? Ball? Ball?" If I don't take the ball and throw it for her, she typcially will spit it onto my lap and then retrieve it when it rolls off! Then she spits it at me, and it rolls off, and . . . The picture above is what happens when you're trying to get her interest with a tennis ball and you accidentally drop it! Onyx has been slow to mature, so she's only shown at 6 circuits in all; once in the puppy class, once in 12-18 and the rest from Bred-By between 21 and 28 months of age. She garnered three Reserves during her brief show history, and some very nice compliments from the judges. We let her mature a bit more, and will be bringing her back out in 2008. We also have plans to send her for some field training, and hope she'll be able to put her retrieving drive to good use!
