TarKom's Miss Molly do Lolly

At the airportMolly joined our family as the beautiful 10 week old puppy you see at the left. Rescued through a series of odd twists by a Golden Retriever Rescue group in Florida, I read about her on an email list. After talking with her rescuer by phone, we fell in love with the personality described to us and had her flown to New Hampshire, where we were living, without having seen even a picture of her. As you can see in the photo, taken right after I pulled her from her crate, it was love at first sight!

Stickwar with GemmaSadly, when Molly was four months old it became apparent that she was having problems getting around. It was then that we received the heartbreaking news that Molly has severe hip dysplasia. Shortly after that we learned that her elbows are also dysplastic. Because she does not have a good surgical prognosis, we've had to walk a careful line with Molly. We watch her weight carefully, give her supplements and OTC pain medication, and ensure that she gets the proper amount of exercise. Most importantly, we made the decision to put the emphasis on the quality of her life, and we allow her to enjoy being a dog. And enjoy it she does! While she is often stiff and sore, she also has fun running and playing with the rest of the gang.

Kissing TJ @ 4 monthsKissing TJ @ 4 yearsWe realize that the time may come when Molly's pain cannot be controlled and that we may be forced to release her from this life far sooner than we would choose. However, we wouldn't miss a minute with this wonderful girl. She has an incredibly sweet temperament, and gives the absolute best kisses!

While Molly is wonderful and special, she is also living testimony to the dangers of "back yard breeding." Someone with a boy dog and a girl dog decided to make money by having a litter. They didn't end up making any money, and Molly has paid a very high price for their choice. While we love sharing our lives with her, her struggle makes our hearts ache.

Molly and KolitDespite this though, Molly is a happy dog and her page should end on a happy note! Here she is in "her" chair, Queen Molly on her throne!

Thanks for visiting her page!!
